July 4th 2008: A group of Navy Officers who work at Camp Eggers displaying a special flag...this 48-star flag is owned by a retired Navy officer who works here as a civilian...this flag washed ashore in the Philippines in 2000 during a typhoon...it was given to this retired Navy officer who did some research and believes that it was a flag from one of 5 US Navy warships that were sunk during WWII near that part of the Philippines. In December 2008, the flag will be donated to the US Military Cemetery in Manila. By the way...about these Navy officers...no, Afghanistan does not have a Navy since the countryis landlocked...these Navy personnel are filling various support positions because of the shortage of troops...hooray for the US Navy!
